Manifesto

A manifesto is a published verbal declaration of aims, intentions, motives or views of the issuer. For our first task we looked at "First Things First manifesto" which was written 29th November 1963 and published in 1964 by Ken Garland. During this seminar, we analysed the text carefully, highlighting words that stood out to us and our interpretation behind them. A few words that stood out in this manifesto for me include: Effective, desirable, reinforces, skill, imagination, respond and interact. From the text, I believe this manifesto is an aim to encourage discussion in all areas of visual communication, it represents design's aspirations and aims of those in organisations, education, practice and outside design. This manifesto looks at the changing relationship of advertising, graphic design, commerce and culture poses. It also represents how graphic designers, art directors and visual communicators have shaped the growth and practice of design.

As a response, we were asked to write up our own manifesto, along with views/opinions of what we consider to be important in our studio practice.
Define success and how you intend to live up to it.
Successfulness starts when you begin to replace 'wish', 'try' and 'should' with 'I will'.
Life has plenty of setbacks, handling these setbacks is another step to success.
Change, adapt, improve to my surroundings.
Live in the moment as that's when your creativity is maximised.
Explore, try something new, collect experiences not things.
Follow your passion.
Accomplish your goals.
Know your strengths, even your weaknesses.
Be creative in all that you do, change your perspective.
Be inspired then inspire others.
To think is creativity, to create is innovation.
Be yourself, original is worth more than a copy.
Reputation is made in the moment, character is built throughout a lifetime
Design is in the future, and I want to be involved in that.
