(NOTE: This Blog post covers three workshops!)

Erik Spiekermann-
(An influential typeface is FF Meta, created between 1991-2010)

Internationally renowned graphic designer, typographer and type designer. He founded the multidisciplinary design consultancy MetaDesign in Berlin, 1979, opening a major San Francisco office in 1992, and another in Zurich.

Cyrus Highsmith-


Highsmith is known for his original approach to drawing letterforms. His designs have been specified for diverse platforms including Rolling Stone, starwars.com and the Ford Motor Company. He has also created custom typefaces for clients such as The Wall Street Journal, Martha Stewart Living, La Prensa Gráfica, ESPN, Men’s Health and El Universal.

Kyle Cooper-


Kyle Cooper is a director and designer of film title sequences. He has directed and produced more than 150 film title and VFX sequences, including Se7en, Spider-Man, and The Mummy. In 2001, he directed a feature film, New Port South. Cooper's title sequence for Se7en is a landmark of visual culture, its influence ranging from graphic and motion design, to film, music videos, advertising and even media art.

Inspirational typography:



Task 1:
Using project references, I needed to transcribe shapes to make letter forms on or typographic characters, using the letters "anesg", lowercase or uppercase.







Task 2:
From our initial shapes and letterforms, I drew up three rough alphabets. From these 3 rough alphabets, I needed to select the most appropriate option to design in preparation for hand-drawn rendering for task 3.



Task 3: (Final Artwork)

Following the two workshops, I drew up a final alphabet. Which is a lot more refined and cleaner. My idea behind the font type was the create an illusion.. The block letters would be viewed from an angle and therefore reveal the 3D part of the letters, which have been blended into the light and dark stripe background, whereas the actual block letters have been left cleaned to stand out more.
