Using Art in Advertising and Timeline There has been a great deal of overlap between publicity and fine art, since the birth of the birth of the advertising industry in the late 19th century. One painter, Belgian Surrealist René Magritte, has had a big impact on the advertising industry,(1898-1967). His poetical pictures, with their signature motifs of flaming tubas and men in bowler hats, have been imitated in countless advertisements,  from Volkswagen cars to the French state railway. The False Mirror (1928), is a close up painting of a lash less eye, where the iris appears to reflect puffy white clouds floating against a bright blue sky. Magritte's painting inspired the logo of America's CBS television network. The False Mirror. CBS television network logo. Personal Values - by Rene Magritte. Deconstructing Helvetica

Image
For this session we worked in small production groups in order to produce an animated ident on the theme of ‘deconstructing helvetica’. Our team discussed and evaluated ideas before producing motion work in After Effects by creating simple sketches and storyboards. To start, I looked at inspirational images and a video on the theme of deconstructing helvetica. Project References:  Anivetica - Animated Helvetica from Will Fortanbary on Vimeo . Poster designs related to the theme I would like to create. I like the idea of the black and white contrast.  These references are ideas to how I could deconstruct the font Helvetica.  Information about the font: Helvetica font is a widely used a popular Sans serif typeface that was designed in 1957 by Swiss type designer Max Miedinger with input from Eduard Hoffmann. The font is a neo-grotesque or realist design, that was influenced by 19th century’s typeface Akzidenz-Grotesk. Our group sketches and

Kinetic Typography Part 2 Z-space

This workshop explored 3D space, depth and the z-axis in after effects. It also covered the use of cameras, rotation and position in 3-dimensions. For this session, we needed  2x A4 pages hand-drawn, digital illustrations, in preparation for moving, spinning, rotating in 3D. I found a quote that I wanted to work with, along with a soundtrack. I chose the quote: J.K. Rowling — 'We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.' Project References: This music lyric video uses a camera to fly through multiple different layers, I really like the style and how effective the animation links in with the lyrics of the song. BBC Today Programme - Stephen Hawking from Jasiurb on Vimeo . These are the two illustrations I create which I will be using to animate in this workshop. The idea of the drawing relates to the quote in my eyes. Basically there is a lit candle referring bac

Physical Studio- Still life drawing

Image
Still life drawings, line study, featuring perspective. There were three tables which each had unique objects them, we sat down and had to draw from the angle we sat at, each table were under the following categories: Physical type, Life's a box and Objects. A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, dead animals, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on).
