Physical Typography (Self Publishing)

Workshop Six — Physical Typography

Using bread as our given material, we needed to first explore its affordances and limitations before creating an entire alphabet. For our final output: a series of 26 photographs (one of each letter) which are then considered collectively as a short stop-frame animation. This allows us to edit another dimension of time in your animation, not only considering the framing of the letters but their movement and transition over time.

After experimenting with letters from bread, we began to create the rest of the alphabet in the same style.

With each letter completed, I edited each image and scaled them so that the letters are in a similar position, which then I made into a gif.
